weba TechDays – Tool Shop Conference for the Automotive Industry

11/06/2018

Intelligent tools and processes, virtual reality, laser technology, special steels and software solutions for the hot forming – practicable industrial application possibilities of different technologies were presented during the weba TechDays.

The current trends such as automated and autonomous driving, smart infotainment and outstanding crash behaviour combined with cost and weight reduction pose even greater challenges for the automotive industry. Therefore a good networking between system, component and part suppliers is essential. weba TechDays from October 11th to 12th created the opportunity to exchange information. Exciting technical lectures on the most current topics in hot forming were based on a successful mix of speakers from expert in automotive industry and specialists in toolmaking. The industrial exhibition offered a good opportunity for a detailed exchange between the visitors and the exhibitors.

In addition to the informative lectures, the visitors were able to join the factory tour and experience in live machine demonstrations the technical highlights of the recently expanded location. With more than EUR 20 million, significant production capacities were created at the site in the Czech Republic, which promise greater flexibility for maximum customer benefit.

Two additional 5-axis gantry machining centers TRIMILL VM6535 and SHW UniForce 7 ensure effective processing of large casts or assemblies. Multi-machine automation with a linear handling system offers an optimal solution for the present machining tasks and increasing unmanned machining. Two machining centers MAZAK Variaxis i-1050 for multi-side machining with 5-axis simulant control have initially been acquired, which will be gradually expanded to six machining centers in the near future.

For more effective buy-off of the hot forming tools, a hydraulic hot stamping press of 1,600 t with a table size of 4,000 x 2,500 mm was purchased. Equipped with a 22 m roller hearth furnace and triple 6-axis automation, the system enables greater customer benefit through process-optimized tools.

Another technical highlight is the TruLaser Cell 7040 laser cutting machine. Thanks to the linear drive in all axes, the series laser system meets the highest precision requirements with regard to contour accuracy. Simultaneous cutting with two cutting heads enables highest productivity even for complex components.

With the new hot forming line and the series laser, weba is now available to assist customers with small series or pre-series productions.

Together with the customers and visitors of the conference the first successful TechDays, the completion of the expansion and the commissioning of the facilities were celebrated in the evening. The presentation of the company's history in moving pictures showed the development of weba from a small tool shop with 10 employees to an international company with four locations worldwide. The vertical acrobatics performance and the UV light show with integrated company logo thrilled the audience. The gala evening was concluded with lively live music.
